CHAPTER 4

ENDING THIS AGE OF ANXIETY

Good Friday 1964 ... Turning to St. John 3:5,13. we find ... "Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I say unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth; so is every one that is born of the Spirit." Nicodemus answered and said unto him, "How can these things be"? Jesus answered and said unto him, "Art thou a master of Israel and knowest not these things"?

Verily, verily I say unto thee, "we speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he came down from heaven, even the Son of Man which is in heaven".

Springing from this recognition of humanities' dual entity, the carnal creature possessed of spirit, it becomes instantly obvious that obedience to the two laws which govern being is the only possible path to reason. The contract between Deity and Nature was that each should compliment the other's creation. Illogical thinking serves neither, yet man insinuates by practices that encourage natural inefficiency that he obeys both laws. Pending the establishment of an ideal state on Earth, the constant struggle for right will wage within each human breast as it has done since the beginning of creation. There is no way to escape the penalty of violation.

Is it any wonder that the mid-twentieth century will be recorded in history as "The Age of Anxiety". We can, even at this late date, transform our times to the golden page of mankind's chronicle and make the next few decades "The End of the Age of Anxiety".

The hypocrisy which infiltrates our present political and social structure will have to go. Loliad advocated close contact with the Parliamentary systems of two great nations during our training sessions, wherein conditions are better than many others; but if these represent true democracy in action it is shocking to think what others must be like.

While decrying discrimination, political appointments for services rendered to a party, regardless of qualifications, are accepted practices. This robs the people of full value for money spent on Government; as does undue bickering to gain personal prestige among party members in the House of Commons.

Excessive ego is more of an occupational hazard among politicians than any other group. Nowhere does the black panther stalk more stealthily and manipulate its charge more smoothly. Youthful ideals fade under a constant flow of personal encouragement seeping through to a conscious mind oblivious to the calculated churnings of the preconscious. Every item of hard earned factual knowledge is brought into play to assist in political victory ... regardless of its biased basis ... that's part of the game! What at first begins to look like a necessary evil appears more necessary and less evil in the heat of a campaign.

There are many writers far better qualified than I to detail the data on political maneuvering. Favouritism pervades our whole social structure, supported by antiquated laws. A notable example is the present wording of legislation forbidding the sale of contraceptives and pertinent literature in Canada. This amounts to nonavailability of suitable items among those sections of society in greatest need of information on these matters, and prohibits their legal distribution by Clinics serving the underprivileged. It also increases profits in Drug Stores patronized by those able to afford such purchase ... for how can anyone control the price of an officially nonexistent product?

Pressure brought to bear on politicians from powerful and biased organizations adds to the general confusion ... is it any wonder that we live in anxious times. We drench our children in age old customs and prejudices from their earliest recollection, drill their open young minds into the same narrow channels of conformity that our grandparents taught.

The custom of "Christening" a baby shortly after birth into a particular secular group, precludes all opportunity for a normal child to investigate other people's beliefs and spiritual ideals until a time when such rigid concepts have been established that free thought is no longer possible. When all heavenly messengers receive the honourable mention and investigation they rightfully deserve, much of our worldwide tension will vanish. Differences in faith have been used as a weapon of propaganda since time immemorial.

Nature's students, who adhere to a creed of pure science, are well justified in trying to break the imposed bonds of blind acceptance. Impartial investigation can reveal nothing less than truth once the pressures of churchianity have been relieved. The atomic nature of all matter is an idea as old as Greek Philosophy and should be the basis of any reckoning with Nature ... it has nothing to do with Spirit. But mankind was hardly capable of realizing this at the time of Genesis. Well aware that new discoveries necessitate reviewal of former authoritative concepts, science excels in its ability to scrap old beliefs in favour of more logical reasoning. There is no adequate defence against the impact of new ideas except total investigation. Details fall into place effortlessly once the overall panorama of excellence is visible.

The present day need is to reject petty trifles cluttering the preconscious which refute progressive thinking. The anxious person is one who consumes large amounts of energy fretting over minor details of personal consideration. Each problem viewed from this aspect takes on mountainous proportions. lndividuals who seek complete understanding of the main issue, in gaining true perspective, reduce all lesser problems to the proportion of molehills.

THE INNER POWER is the first in a series of four books designed to clarify objectives for the sincere. The third book will explain in terms of vibration and magnetism the mathematical proofs of the existence of the spirit mind, totally foreign to the natural thought process. It will illustrate how harmonious coexistence between the physical atomic structure and the higher vibrational essence can result in a pain and disease free life. Acceptance of this superior logic will topple all lesser concepts even as it is written, "When that which is perfect shall come, that which is in part shall be done away".

St. Paul consistently confirms the bitter struggle between the intelligence and the inner self who "conferred not with flesh and blood". Conscious awareness of these conflicting elements will speed lasting well being.

From the moment of birth to the instant of animal death, there are lessons to be learned. If life is conducted in such a manner as to be suppressive of spiritual advancement, rather than progressive, the whole effort is detrimental and the spirit would have been better off without its visit to this planet. Thus the detailed attention to quality before quantity, giving every child starting out in life an equal opportunity to succeed.

* * *

The capsuled carnal mentality, in the form of aurotic vibration in ultra colour, clothes the spirit entity on its departure from the flesh. Before enjoying the full delights of the Spirit World, a world of vibratory harmony where no discord may enter, the colours of the aura must, if mixed together, reflect a brilliant white shade.

Remorse is the process which erases aurotic discolouration along with the memory of all earthly actions performed under ego domination. Those who live according to the flesh obliterate most earthly memory during this refining process. Individuals who have understood and respected Universal Law remain rich in both colouring and memory. Any who have visited the Spirit World will realise this is not nearly so complicated as it sounds. If one has little recollection of fulfilment and much to regret, the objective of Earthly schooling will be lost. The spiritual personality will be ill defined and toneless, sometimes almost imperceptible in the infinite cosmic harmony.

Any who remain apathetic on Earth reap spiritual apathy ... inability to participate fully in the energy-dance of joy, for lack of capacity. This is another reason why complete self-examination is advocated. Half-hearted spiritual effort is a lacklustre affair and doomed to failure. Amazing experiences await the experimenter who follows the procedures outlined with all mind, soul and strength.

Perhaps if I explain the initial transition by relating the experiences of some acquaintances, this point will become clearer.

There was Conrad for instance, who, many years ago, became lost in a desert and succumbed from thirst and starvation.

"When I woke up all the pangs of hunger and thirst were gone. I felt gloriously free and cheerful, though somewhat surprised to see my wrinkled, dehydrated body still laying in the sand while I had the sensation of floating above it the way one hovers in a dream. Seizing on the dream idea, I wished myself home with my family ... and, as I willed the thought, so it occurred.

Anna, my wife, seemed in no way surprised at my presence and after awhile I realised that she was unable to detect me in spite of all my efforts to gain her attention. After awhile I gave up trying to communicate and "wished" myself to our favourite spot in the park at Rotterdam to take a last look around. Again my presence went undetected.

There was no sense of time, life moved leisurely; but I wearied of the experience of travelling and gradually the familiar things faded from view. I began to think about my life on Earth, and suddenly, I was a boy again. The former play things of my childhood came into view in a room, similar to my room in youth and yet different; after awhile I realized it was the room of childhood's ideal, and the other occupant of the room was the mother of childhood's ideal" ...

Conrad then went on to describe his sensations as he passed through every phase of his former life. He met all the people with whom he had had earthly contacts, feeling pleasure at the memory of some, pain on recalling his experiences with others. This continued until he came to assimilate the errors of his life and saw the necessity of obliterating certain of his actions and achieving a state of perfection before he could progress any further in his new environment.

Having shed the preconscious mind, this man could add no more thought or memory to his "natural storehouse", merely relive past experiences, like a continuous playback program on television. There was no possibility of doing over what had been done wrong. Remorse was the only way in which he could pay for each mistake. This process, which occupied several hundred Earth years, continued 'till Conrad lost all further desire to see or hear more of Earthly contacts.

A more recent departee, a late soldier of World War I, confided ... "I stumbled, then got up and started running towards the lines again. It took quite awhile before I turned around and realised I hadn't moved an inch, and that the poor bloke on the ground behind me was myself. It was a proper shock I can tell you. This calls for a pint of mild and bitter I thought, and lo and behold, there I was sitting in the local pub back in Hackney". This particular man, like many others at that time, made his last Earthly farewells at the unveiling of the Cenotaph in London.

I know it to be true also, that many negroes of the last century were actually swept aboard as the "Sweet Chariot" swung low at the time of their passing. This is the reception they anticipated, this then is the way they were received. The loving Father is swift to act once His children are free of the carnal. It is entirely possible that this vision of the Golden Chariot was seen momentarily prior to departure as animal strength ebbed low. Tremble for their oppressors, in the certain knowledge of Eternal Justice. The cruel have much to fear, for the agonies of repentance can be forgone by no man. None can circumvent judgement.

The sophisticated may try for a hearty chortle about now. If the laughter sounds a trifle shrill it is because, however swamped it is by mortality, the spiritual mind knows truth; can think in no other terms for it is the offspring of Truth. Consequently, regardless of the indignities and suppression to which meekness may be subjected, the spiritual core of such people is a peaceful and happy one, not given to anxiety. Inner certainty of Truth makes such people free from the law of flesh, free from fear of death. Such people don't have to be told of a Heavenly Father, for they know it in their hearts. Ego presents no barrier to the meek, the needle's eye is no obstacle.

Truly it is written "I will scatter the proud in the imagination of their hearts. The arrogant will be sent away empty ..."

* * *

Ever anxious to get what it feels it has coming, the carnal fights for its "rights", while the spiritual entity clamours for righteousness. Tension results from this opposition within the individual often without conscious awareness.

The so-called "well-balanced" individual is usually one who has learned to reach some sort of compromise. This involves the building up of a compensatory system of self-deception, precludes further insight, and provides no lasting solution to the troubled mind.

All persons involved in receiving public adulation, entertainers, politicians, and such, have a serious occupational hazard to face.

Each man tends to magnify his Self-image when environment or employment has encouraged ego. In order to become politically outstanding, for example, it is necessary for a man to feed self confidence to reaffirm his sense of superiority in having risen above his colleagues in achieving such leadership. This subtle but regular diet develops a "panther" of gigantic proportions and a ravenous appetite, however well trained it is in disguising these manifestations.

An egotistical dream world begins to separate these people from reality. Wild orgies and illicit sex relationships among this group is rarely the sex urge manifesting itself as they would like to believe: Better it was. No, it is the constant demand for reassurance of their powers of captivation. Superior intelligence is powerless to unmask this ego, for the whole mind is subservient to the "panther". It commands the total resources of the carnal storehouse of knowledge, permitting only that which is palatable to pervade conscious thought.

The better fed the "panther", the greater its accumulation of factual knowledge, the harder the victim falls for its whiles. This selfish motivation drags others down with the principal victim and ends in misery for many. Yet history can repeat itself over and over again in this respect and still ego wins every time. Great empires have risen and fallen for this cause ... Why?

Because mankind operates on the foggy logic of like and dislike. Few people are master's of their own actions. Even fewer consciously practice mind control. This allows the preconscious to inflame the carnal with uncontrollable desires even though the person is aware of the possible consequences - broken homes, total disgrace, financial ruin, or even death ... "You can get away with it" Ego insinuates, "You are so much smarter than the others" ... and the half starved conscience is silenced.

Among the first pictures that Loliad portrayed for me was a heartrending illustration of conscience. A tiny child, painfully undernourished, was holding a leash; on the other end of this leash raged a huge black panther. Every scrap of food that was offered to the child was skilfully pawed out of the way by the animal, while the child looked on faint with exhaustion. Only when the beast, weary with overindulgence, lay down to rest could the child creep forward and plead for sustenance ... for the sustenance of conscience is the Word of God.

So be it. Conscience, the voice of the inner power, is unable to project its vibrations whilst a state of inflammatory fever rages in the preconscious. At this time, intense thought waves flash out in all directions precluding any type of reason. However, the animal mind is flesh, and being flesh tires. In any conflict between flesh and spirit the final victory must go to spirit, for the carnal mind will age, deteriorate, and eventually succumb to spiritual suggestion. Even in its prime the carnal must pause to rest, and gaining brief ascendency, the spiritual mind starts to beep out its impulses, giving the animal no real rest ... until a couple of sleeping pills are used to dim the nagging voice of conscience; but only temporarily, and never effectively.

Tomorrow's conscience will be illustrated as a graceful person; Ego, the black panther, will look more like a friendly dog, heeling to the call of its companion as they race along life's highway side by side. All sustenance will be shared equally ... knowledge of physical matters going to the natural mind, knowledge gained in mediation nourishing the spiritual mind.

Insomnia and tension go hand in hand. Self-pity is a major cause of troubled sleep, followed by self-justification which blames others for personal faults. The number of people who preconsciously create unfavourable situations in order that they might wallow in the luxury of self-pity is surprising. These individuals enjoy playing back all the fancied injustices encountered in life; groan at the ingratitude shown by their fellows; dramatize every slight. What sweet salve to Ego to dream thus!

The more extensive the memory cabinets, the greater the number of incidents the mind can dig up for repetition. The woman who claims she can read her husband like a book rarely does; instead of skipping the part she doesn't like she goes over it again and again, making his weaknesses her favourite topic. Exchanging such titbits of gossip leads to further magnification of simple problems; of course no reference is ever made to personal contributory factors.

Recognizing an infallible attention-getter, the story teller, gauging the credulity of the audience, embellishes facts accordingly ... for the full measure of sympathy and attention must be wrung out of each situation.

Men are little better. Listen to Veterans rehashing the privations encountered during wars; the glorification of the gallantry and triumphs, the magnification of the squalor and the excitement of foreign towns and exotic female charms ... and relishing every moment of the recollection.

To suggest that these tales lack veracity would deal a cruel blow to the storyteller's pride ... Loliad had the disconcerting knack of flashing on the true scene being depicted every time we encountered situations of this type ... particularly the "enemies" side of the story. The Chaplain aspect was always a source of wonderment to me: Asking a Loving Father for special consideration before setting off to destroy another of His Children hardly seems logical from any point of view ... It might be assumed from the foregoing explanation that the "average" man is greatly blessed by The Master in that he has less ego to contend with, and should therefore be less prone to anxiety: This is not the case.

Each individual is naturally endowed with a given quantity of intellectual capacity, plus an exclusive chemical factory which might be of an explosive or calm disposition, with every shading of variety in between. A person having a cupful of intellect must then develop a cupful of spiritual insight for perfect balance.

To those people with a low intelligence quotient, let's say an ounce measure, only an ounce of spiritual development is required for harmony. This again reflects the urgent need to produce quality before quantity of human beings.

The man or woman possessed of a gallon measure of intellectual capacity, acquires with this an equal measure of responsibility towards Spirit ... for to cope with this carnal giant it is imperative that balance of spiritual insight be developed ... or all is lost.

Remorse can only be suffered to the extent of one's aurotic discolouration. As the Aura reflects every thought vibration emitted from the physical mind, it follows that the greater the carnal capacity for thought, the denser the potential for aurotic discolouration, and in reverse, the more opportunity for depth of understanding.

Understanding that there is a point, attainable in life, where music ceases to be sound and becomes unfolding colour; a point where emotion ceases to be feeling and becomes brightness; a strata where thoughts become pictures. Any who have used the psychedelic drugs will understand this description.

The horror on our globe has been brought about by those generously gifted with natural talent, whose preconscious filing cabinets overflow with literal facts, yet who are devoid of spiritual insight: Without humility.

Be impressed with the awful responsibility of the "Gallon Measure". It is not possible to feed the intelligence and the spiritual mind at the same time. A steady diet of natural fact develops a panther out of all proportion, unless counter balanced by prayer and meditation. Therefore it is essential to understand Universal Law.

When those with natural ability can resist their great fallibilities, lust, excitation, self-pride; and reap insight to correspond with the physical senses, THE GLORIOUS RACE will have its leadership secure.

The fleshy mind, however confident of aping the crystal vision of spirituality, has but one recourse to wisdom ... that is in dying. In Christianity far too much is left to be accomplished by mere death. Only one kind of dying is effective; that is dying and being "born again" with a shining new perspective ... as a child. However far fetched this accomplishment may sound it is attainable. But to suggest that the experience is either easy or pain-free would be deceptive. Often a natural event, such as a close brush with death, brings realization. The second method requires hard work. Eventual results amply justify the effort involved, allowing total rejection of tension and anxiety. But this method requires isolation from society, (forty days in the wilderness as a minimum), so for the average person it is perhaps better to aim for spiritual development.

Spiritual strength is determined by the energy expended on feeding and exercise. Complacency must not replace anxiety in our New World. Remember the song we used to sign in Sunday School ... "Fight the good fight with all thy might". Action alone can properly replace anxiety. Action to combat every form of injustice and inequality among nations and individuals ... "Lay hold on Life, and it shall be, thy joy and crown -- Eternally!"

The black panther, presently master of homosapiens, when reigned by the leash of spiritually, will have no objections to being termed "Rover" when it understands that it is not to be retired, merely retrained. The lumbering process of physical thought, presently hampered by an ego which needs to digest each morsel of information entering the preconscious before classification can be completed when allowed to operate freely, without bias, become speeded up to an incredible degree. Ego no longer has to worry about keeping a constant guard on facts received, for the spiritual mind analyses instantly the differences between truth and error and these are its only concern. Disregarding "Like and Dislike" as a basis for acceptance, and rejecting all error regardless of whether or not it is palatable, the spiritual mind thus relieves the watchdog of its vigil and conserves its vitality.

Ego will revel in the capacity of watchdog, rise to its full intensity under spiritual direction, driving its human to all lengths to combat error.

However, an impoverished spiritual personality will require careful convalescence with large portions of 'high protein' diet to develop its vigour before assuming the monumental task of panther-taming. PRAYER will summon a guiding hand, CONFESSION of faults will uproot the panther's pride, MEDITATION will illuminate.

If properly applied this formula will eliminate all forms of anxiety. The best method of procedure is to decide on your major frailty, then work for whatever length of time is necessary on its eradication.

Presuming selfish motivation is a problem. Then the prayer would be a sincere plea for strength to overcome this error, something like "Father, help me to overcome self-will, that I might become the instrument of Thy Will".

The confession portion would consist of detailing each item in your day's events which had been motivated selfishly.

The meditation would be silent contemplation on Universal Law as it pertained to unselfishness, the Law which says, as you give, so it shall be given unto you in overflowing measure.

If your anxiety is based on fear, then the prayer would be for greater capacity to love. The confession would consist of a listing of predominant fears, each account being given in detail. Meditation would be on the phase "Perfect love casteth out fear" ... and so on.

Each type of error might take days, weeks or months of constant probing to correct, depending on the depth of its source and how much energy is put into the eradication.

Meditation is like a systematic exploration of Perfection. Night after night, fragment after fragment, in rejecting carnality one learns to possess His attributes.

I sometimes think of the soul as having many windows, each able to let in light. Meditation pulls down the blinds - rips them off the windows for evermore letting the light flood in. Again it is rather like thinking of God as a jigsaw puzzle. First you examine tiny pieces of the puzzle, then gradually learn to fit them together -- and it all makes sense. The more light that enters the mind, and the more pieces of the puzzle that are understood, the greater the recognition.
